Regular Meeting Information

Most regular Douglas School Committee meetings are held on the first and third Wednesday of each month at 6:30 PM in room C208 of the Douglas High School, 33 Davis Street, Douglas. Meeting dates and times may vary; please verify the date, time, and location on the posted meeting agenda.

Regular meetings are open to the general public. The meetings are broadcasted live via this You Tube link or the one located on the side menu on this page. Executive Sessions are not open to the public and are generally held at 6:00 PM prior to the regular meeting or directly after a regular meeting. (*Please note that Executive Sessions held before a meeting sometimes run past 6:30 PM, delaying the start of the regular meeting.)

Role of the Douglas School Committee

The Douglas School Committee is the legislative and policy-making body charged with supervision of the Douglas Public School System. Under Chapter 71, Section 37 of the Massachusetts General Laws.

"shall have the power to select and to terminate the superintendent, shall review and approve budgets for public education in the district and shall establish educational goals and policies for the schools in the district consistent with the requirements of law and statewide goals and standards established by the Massachusetts Board of Education."

It also conducts collective bargaining with all employee organizations.

Under Chapter 71, Section 59 of the Massachusetts General Laws, the School Committee may, upon the recommendation of the Superintendent, also establish and appoint the following positions:

  • Assistant Superintendent(s)

  • School Business & Operations Manager

  • Director of Special Education & Student Support Services

  • School Physician

  • Registered Nurses

  • Legal Counsel

The School Committee may approve or disapprove the hiring of said positions.
